About Frank

I overcame a learning disability and now share my story through my book and talks to inspire and motivate others.

Inspiring Others Through Overcoming Challenges: Frank Ryan's Journey

My name is Frank Ryan, and I am the author of Same, Only Different. Growing up with an undiagnosed learning disability shaped many of my early experiences. While my peers followed a typical path in school, I often found myself on a different journey that left me feeling isolated and unsure of my abilities.

These challenges impacted my self-esteem and created barriers I didn’t fully understand at the time. Despite setbacks and struggles, I discovered the importance of resilience, self-belief, and support from those who truly cared. Over time, I was able to reframe my perspective, pursue my education, and find success in unexpected places.

My journey inspired me to write Same, Only Different—a story about embracing what makes us unique and finding strength in adversity. Through this book, I hope to connect with others who face similar challenges and let them know they’re not alone. A portion of every sale supports the Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, contributing to resources for those in need.

What inspired you to write "Same, Only Different?"?

I was inspired to write this book after reflecting on my own struggles with learning disabilities and the sense of isolation I felt as a child. Through volunteering with the Learning Disabilities Association, I realized that many others share similar experiences. I wanted to create a resource that would help children and adults feel understood and not alone in their struggles.

What is the main message of the book?

The main message is to help children and adults with learning disabilities understand that they are not alone in their experiences. It also aims to encourage empathy and support from others, helping both children with disabilities and those around them develop a better understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with learning differences.

How does your personal experience shape the book?

My personal journey with learning disabilities, including the struggles with self-esteem, academic challenges, and overcoming depression, directly shaped the book. It reflects both my challenges and the eventual realization that belief in myself was the key to overcoming obstacles.

A portion of the proceeds from every book is donated.

$5 from every book sale is being donated to the Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. This donation will help provide additional support to individuals living with learning disabilities and raise awareness about their challenges.

What do you hope readers take away from your book?

I hope readers, especially children and adults with learning disabilities, will feel empowered and supported. I want them to understand that their struggles don’t define them, and that with belief in themselves, they can overcome challenges. For others, I hope it fosters empathy and a deeper understanding of learning disabilities.

Who is the target audience for this book?

The book is aimed at children and adults who may be struggling with learning disabilities, as well as their families, teachers, and peers. It’s also for anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of what it’s like to live with a learning disability.
